I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at Virginia Tech. Before this position, I was a Joint Simons-IQIM postdoc at Caltech under Xie Chen and a PhD student at Yale University under Meng Cheng and Liang Jiang.

Currently, my group researches quantum error correction, topological order, and the physics of learning.

In quantum error correction, we develop new codes with desired properties (code parameters, set of fault-tolerant gates, locality, lattice constraints) using conventional approaches and machine-learning techniques. In topological order, we are currently focused on thermalization properties and self-correcting models. Within learning, we are focused on understanding and tailoring AI architectures using physics-based insights and understanding how learning happens.
